Astronomy books
During the 3rd century, astronomers used shadows in wells
to determine the Earth’s radius. Since then, we’ve taken
a great interest in our planet and the universe around us–developing
equations that give us somewhat of an understanding of the cosmos around
us. Most of our findings have been conveniently published in astronomy
books.
Some of the other information available in astronomy books includes:
• Average orbital speeds of the planets
• Gravitational force of each planet
• A planet’s mass
• Density
• Different temperature
Earth’s mass was discovered using theories by Newton, Galileo,
Henry Cavendish and Eratosthenes. By combining Newton’s Law of
Gravity (F=GmM/r2) and his Law of Motion (F=ma), we’ve discovered
that the mass of Earth is 6.0 x 10^24 kg, a fact readily accessible
in any astronomy book.
